Plum Goodness Grape Seed Scrub Review

Today, I thought it was about time that I shared the second instalment of my Plum Goodness review series.  This post is a review of the Grape Seed & Sea Buckthorn Mild Foam Scrub, which is from the same range as my previous post – this will be a little shorter than the last post.

Are Plum Goodness cruelty-free?

Plum Goodness is an online-cosmetic brand, based in India, that was founded by Shankar Prasad in July 2014. The brand is one of the first 100% vegan brands in India that are completely committed to ensuring that their products are ‘safe and good’ – not only are the products cruelty-free but they are also free of parabens, phthalates and SLS. The products are renowned for being both high-quality and affordable.

One of my favourite things that I like about the Plum Goodness brand is that they do not promote any skin whitening products, something that is unfortunately rife in India’s cosmetic industry. The products all feature the ‘1% For The Planet’ logo, meaning that Plum Goodness give 1% of their sales to non-profit organizations that are dedicated to protecting the environment.

Grape Seed & Sea Buckthorn Mild Foam Scrub

The foam scrub is made of 100% biodegradable, natural, skin-friendly Cellulose beads (no plastic whatsoever) that gently buff away debris and dead cells. The Grape Seed oil in the scrub is rich in linoleic acid,in vitamins and anti-oxidants providing protection against pollutants, sun damage and free radicals, while the Sea Buckthorn oil heals skin damage naturally without skin irritation.

On the Plum Goodness website, the scrub is recommended for those with normal and combination skin types, but is not recommended for people with very dry skin, acne-prone skin and for those with extremely sensitive skin.

The scrub is priced at Rs. 335.00 (Indian rupees) for 75ml, which is approximately £4.00 – please do bear in mind that the exchange rate can fluctuate, and the price could be a little higher for someone purchasing from outside of India but I was charged exactly £4.00 for the foam scrub

Review

At first glance, I could smell the grape seed more than anything and the texture is more like a slightly runny gel, the scrub is transparent with red beads. When using the face scrub, I generally found it to be quite soothing and gentle on the skin. For someone that has sensitive skin, I was pleasantly surprised at not having any kind of tingling sensation as I did with the mask, the scrub gradually turned into foam as I was massaging it on my skin.

After washing off, my skin felt clear, bright and smooth, it had a very polished shine to it – something that I normally get after having a facial treatment in a salon. My skin didn’t  feel the slightest bit oily or dry – in fact it remained quite balanced for the rest of the day, and wasn’t at all effected by the pollutants outside.

The foam scrub has done a wonderful job at maintaining my skin as it begins to get colder outside and help bring out a natural glow to my skin – it is without doubt a face scrub that you want to get your hands on! 👌🏽💆🏽‍♀✨

Lush Pumpkin Bath Bomb Review

I hope you all have a lovely and safe Halloween. Like most of us, I’ve outgrown Halloween and frankly, with my work schedule and commitments I don’t really have the time for it. At the beginning of this month I did write a makeup post for those that are celebrating Halloween, Cruelty-free Halloween makeup, and today I want to dedicate this post to those of you that would like to have a relaxed evening for Halloween (or don’t really celebrate).

This is my first post on a bath bomb and it’s also been a while since I’ve used a bath bomb, so I’m generally quite excited to review this product. Just so you know Lush have a whole collection of Halloween themed bath bombs, if you’d like to try out some of the other ones.

Who are Lush?

Most people I know are familiar with the brand, but just in case you don’t know – Lush are an all-round ethical company that are commited to being cruelty-free, vegan and sustainable as possible. The products that they sell are all handmade and smell amazing! With over 100 stores across the U.K, Lush is easily one of the most prominent organic beauty brands.

Pumpkin Bath Bomb

The Lush Pumkin Bath Bomb is of course made with Pumkin Pie perfume with exotic Pimento, Cinnamon Bark Oil and Vanilla. The combination of the oils in the bath bomb give off a soothing sweet and spicy smell – perfect for getting into the Halloween or autumnal spirit.

I bought the bath bomb for £4.25 from the Oxford Street, London Lush store.

Review

Before putting the bath bomb in the tub, I could really smell pumkin more than anything, it smelt more like a pumpkin candy when in solid form. After fizzing out, the combination of the cinnamon and vanilla became more prominent – strangely enough it looked a lot like orange soda/fanta to me.

Once I got into the tub, I was a little overwhelmed with the smells, but after a minute or so it became quite relaxing. I was actually quite surprised at how quickly the oils from the bath bomb started working into my skin, within 10 minutes I could physically see and feel my skin softening up. The bath bomb has a very soothing blend of sweet & spicy smells that work gently on the skin.

I actually forgot about the amount of time that I spent in the tub, if I had to guess then I would say somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour, which I is good sign as it meant that the bath bomb worked well in being relaxing. Surprisingly, the bath bomb didn’t stain my skin or tub, but I did have a quick shower afterwards just in case, after drying down my skin was still just as soft as it was in the tub. This bath bomb is definitely perfect for people that don’t get a lot of time to themselves, it’s great way to unwind and forget about time – loved it! Today I wanted to share with you all the first review of a series of reviews on some products that I ordered from Plum Goodness.

Who are Plum Goodness?

Plum Goddness is an online-cosmetic brand, based in India, that was founded by Shankar Prasad in July 2014. The Grape Seed & Sea Buckthorn Renaissance Face Mask

The mask is made of kaolin and bentonite clays for a natural cleansing and exfoliation of the skin. The grape seed oil is rich in polyphenols (anti-oxidants), Vitamins D, C, E, flavonoids and essential fatty acids, while the sea buckthorn oil heals skin damage naturally without skin irritation.

The face mask is priced at Rs. 450.00 (Indian rupees) for 75g, which is approximately £5.25 – please do bear in mind that the exchange rate does fluctuate but it shouldn’t make too much of a difference in the price for someone purchasing from abroad.

Review

The first thing that I noticed about the Grape Seed & Sea Buckthorn Renaissance Face Mask was how easy it was to apply. The texture of the face mask is very smooth and slightly creamy, it generally smells very clean and the colour is a natural looking nude peach.

When I applied the face mask I did feel a bit of a tingling sensation, I do have sensitive skin so that is quite a normal reaction for me. After a few moments, the mask felt and smelt quite gentle, I could smell the grape seed oil more than anything else but I must admit that the smell was not overbearing. As mentioned before the recommended time to leave the mask on for is 30 minutes, but surprisingly the mask dried within 10 minutes of application. I left it on for the recommended amount of time, my skin did feel tight once it dried.

After washing off the mask, my skin visibly looked softer and brighter – I felt like I was glowing. Not only had the face mask manage to fade some of my dark blemishes but it also made my skin feel firmer than normal.

So far, I am extremely impressed with the high quality of this face mask, it’s the perfect mask to use to keep your skin looking fresh throughout the autumn weather – I cannot wait to share my review of the other products by Plum Goodness. 😄👌🏽💆🏽‍♀️✨

Lush ‘The Birth of Venus’ Jelly Face Mask Review

Today I thought that I’d write a review on a relatively new face mask that I’ve been quite impressed with in the short amount of time that I’ve been using it – ‘The Birth of Venus’ jelly face mask by Lush.

Are Lush cruelty free?

Lush are an all-round ethical company that are commited to being cruelty-free, vegan and sustainable as possible. Their products are all handmade, smell amazing, and have a cool sticker at the bottom of their (boxed) products to tell you who and when the products were made. With over 100 stores across the U.K, Lush is easily one of the most prominent organic beauty brands.

‘The Birth of Venus’ Jelly Face Mask

The Lush ‘The Birth of Venus’ Jelly Face Mask is great for toning, soothing and balancing your skin. Fresh sea water tones and refreshes skin, lavender oil calms and rose absolute soothes and balances. Carageenan seaweed gel is intensely softening and will leave skin irresistably soft. To use, simply pinch off a piece of the mask and work to a paste between clean, dry hands. Apply to the face and let it work its magic for 5-10 minutes.

Review

My initial thoughts on the mask were that the texture reminds me of melted marshmallows and once you start to rub it between your hands it the jelly mask starts getting thinner and looks a little like lather.

Normally, I like to leave on face masks longer than the recommended amount of time, mainly because I like the face mask to be completely dry before taking it off. So I left the jelly mask on for about 15 minutes, and once the mask had dried completely I washed it off with luke warm water. As I was washing it off, I felt that my skin was visibly more softer and was glowing, and after drying my face my skin was smooth and firm. I would definitely recommend this mask for you all, especially before you sleep!

Fenty Beauty

I hope you all have been well.

All my beauty lovers will already know about the launch of Rihanna’s beauty range earlier this week, frankly I can’t stop gushing over the products already. One thing that stood out in particular, was that the foundation range has 40 shades making Fenty Beauty one of the most inclusive makeup brands, ever.

As someone who has known many young girls and women that have struggled with finding the correct foundation shade for their skin tone, Rihanna’s range seems to be a breath of fresh air that the beauty industry needed. I’ve seen first hand that the problem is not just skin-deep but it’s the sense of being marginalised by mainstream beauty brands which has been going on for longer than it really should have. It’s such a shame that mainstream beauty brands have only started to become more inclusive in recent years.

What’s worse is the fact that for a long time, not only have women had to choose from a limited range of shades but they have also been shamed for wearing the wrong shade

Is Fenty Beauty cruelty-free?

Kendo, the ‘brand incubator’ and parent company of Fenty Beauty, also manage cruelty-free brands like Marc Jacobs and Kat Von D. The beauty range is cruelty-free, but it is yet to be independently verified by PETA, Cruelty-free International etc.

KiteNest Organic Dry Shampoo Review

Today I wanted to share an amazing product that I’ve been using for the past two weeks – KiteNest’s Organic Dry Shampoo.

A little about KiteNest

KiteNest are a Lincolnshire based company whose motto ‘Natural Creations Without Compromise’ is not only central to their ethical focus but to almost everything that they do and create. All of KiteNest’s products are 100% natural, paraben-free, cruelty-free, vegan and are individually crafted and handmade by Chris and Markus. The products that KiteNest sell range from hair care, skin care as well as beeswax products. Everything about this company is clean and green from the product itself, to the packaging including the vermiculite cushioning that’s used to pad the box packaging when shipping the orders.

The Organic Dry Shampoo 

About the product

The Organic dry shampoo is 100% natural and organic, cruelty-free and vegan-friendly, containing no talc and no toxic chemicals or GMOs. The cardboard tube is fully recyclable, and is sourced from responsibly maintained forests in Northern Europe. There are two different organic dry shampoo’s that are available to buy, one for light hair tones and the other being for dark hair tones. (It’s best to get in contact with the KiteNest team, if you’re unsure of which one would be best for your hair type.)

When using the dry shampoo, you simply need to apply some to the roots of your hair and massage it in for roughly 30 seconds to a minute, depending on how thick your hair is or how satisfied with it you are. Once you feel that the shampoo has absorbed the excess oil and moisture then you can brush through your hair to remove the excess powder and style however you like.

KiteNest’s Organic Dry Shampoo is available to buy via their website and is priced at £10 for 150g and if your order is over £30 your postage will be free! (That’s unfortunately only for U.K residents)

Review

The organic dry shampoo that I’ve been using is for dark hair tones. When using it the first thing that I noticed was the ethically sourced packaging and that the dry shampoo smelt like grapefruit – which I love. The powder itself is very lightweight and generally has a very fine texture that’s like talc powder.

At first I made the silly mistake of using too much product on my hair – which resulted in me having to shake most of it off. I eventually realised that I should put on a little bit at a time, and this helped with getting rid of the natural oil in my hair significantly. Quick tip – if you have long hair like mine, then it’s best to use the dry shampoo over your bath tub so that you’re not making too much of a mess or having to struggle over the sink like I did.

Overall, the organic dry shampoo works well in terms of making your hair look and smell fresher than it actually is (lol). The way that it manages to absorb the natural oils and excess moisture in my hair, without having to do much on my part, takes off such a big load as managing my hair is easily the most high maintenance task that I (and many of you all) have to deal with daily. So it’s definitely a thumbs up from me! ☺👍🏼

Do natural deodorants work?

Hello everyone! How is your weekend going so far?

Do natural deodorants work? Yes! But of course one word isn’t the best way to answer the question.

The reviews that are on this site are all done by myself, from testing out the products, to writing my thoughts about it – but today I’d like to share some research and reviews on natural deodorants (carried out by a very reliable source) – Reviews.com. And of course, like always all the products are cruelty-free and vegan!

Who are Reviews.com?

Reviews.com is a wesbite created and managed by an inquisitive small team who test and review products. Once they review the products and services the team collectively decide on which products and services are the best. Personally I quite like the idea of a team collectively deciding what is the ‘best’ as this makes the research more credible and valuable.

After talking with a dermatologist, a chemist, and two natural deodorant creators, the Reviews.com team hand-tested 23 deodorants to find their top picks: aluminum-free formulas with pleasant scents, goop-free application, and minimal residue.

The Best Natural Deodorants:

1 | Sam’s Natural Deodorant –  “The product is free of aluminum, free of common irritants, and its first two ingredients (coconut oil and baking soda) are verified odor-blockers. We found the circular stick easy to maneuver across our pits, and it left minimal goop on clothes and only a faint sheen on skin. The Cedar and Women’s scents that we tested both lasted through two hours of wear — without smelling overpowering — and if neither of these options appeals to you, Sam’s offers 13 more scents. Each stick is reasonably priced ($10 for 3 ounces) and an easy gateway for anyone interested in transitioning to a natural product.” Those of you based in the U.K can order directly from the Sam’s Natural website by clicking here.

 

2 | Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant – “Schmidt’s sticks for regular skin boast the same odor-busting coconut oil and baking soda as Sam’s, in a similarly flake- and residue-free formula. We tried four of its seven scents and liked the cool “freshly fallen rain” nose of the Charcoal+Magnesium formula — although if you like a pop of floral, its Rose+Vanilla certainly delivers. The price point is about the same as Sam’s: around $10 for 3 ounces.” Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant is available to here in the U.K from Naturisimo.com.

 

3 | For Pit’s Sake! Natural Deodorant – “This product comes in a stick that leaves almost no residue, but we did have to use quite a bit of force to fully coat our pits, which some of our hairy-pitted testers weren’t too into. That said, it includes all threeof the odor-blocking ingredients we pinpointed in our research — coconut oil, baking soda, and zinc — at a comfortable $9.” Unfortunately I couldn’t find any stockists here in the U.K, and I couldn’t find any details of internation shipping but if you are interesting in buying it’s worth getting in touch with the sellers.

 

4 | Green Tidings All-Natural Deodorant -“Like Sam’s and Schmidt’s, this deodorant is vegan and cruelty-free, but its ingredients are also certified organic by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and it’s made in a solar-powered plant. The trade-off? It’s a little more expensive, at $8 for a 1-ounce tube. Green Tidings is aluminum-free and includes baking soda and (organic) coconut oil to fend off body odor. The subtle scent (courtesy of organic lavender essential oil) didn’t last as long as Sam’s, but after two hours, we didn’t notice any BO, either. Testers did find the product a bit gritty, but some of them liked this added assurance that they’d successfully coated their underarms.” Again, this product only seems to be available in the U.S on Amazon.

 

 5 | Fatco Women’s Stank Stop Deodorant – “was the only other natural dedorant we tested that included all three of our wish-list odor-blockers. (It’s also Certified Paleo, and includes beef tallow as a moisturizer.) Fatco is a cream, which means you’ll need to dip your fingers into a (very small) jar to apply the product — a process our testers weren’t wild about. But the deodorant itself was very effective, with a pleasant smell and minimal residue.” Buy online from Amazon (U.S.) 

 

6 | Agent Nateur & Shiva Rose Holi Rose Deodorant – “seemed almost like a combination of deodorant and women’s perfume (although not everyone liked the rose and sandalwood scent). Holi Rose leaves very little residue, and while it was also the most expensive product that we tested ($25 for 1.7 ounces), it’s a good high-end option if you’re concerned about protecting delicate fabric.” You can buy this online from Amazon (U.S).

Today I’m very excited to share some quick product reviews of a few Arbonne Cosmetics samples that I received a little while back.

Arbonne International are an all vegan brand that have been around for almost 40 years, and their products are based on the philosophy of using pure, botanically based ingredients in scientifically tested products. Arbonne create a variety of products ranging from skincare, personal care, nutrition, makeup as well as hair care. They formulate their products without parabens, artificial sweetners, gluten, synthetic dyes, petrolatum, artificial flavours – and best of all they are strictly cruelty-free!

One thing that I personally love about their brand is their ‘Arbonne Ever Green Commitment’ to being as clean and green as possible by creating products with recyclable packaging, using recycled and recyclable shipping boxes, reducing their carbon emissions and conserving water.

My verdict

So moving on to the samples that I received…

RE9 Advanced Collection – The Day Cream was definitely my favourite out of these, the cream was lightweight and moisterised my skin without feeling oily it has a nice light citrus smell to it that lasted quite a while.

 

FC5 Collection – The Hydrating Eye Cream was another product that I liked the most. It has a combination of lime, ginger & cucumber extracts which keeps the cream smelling very refreshing, it’s perfect to use as a base cream before applying eyeshadow.

 

 

It’s A Long Story Mascara – I was very impressed with the way that the mascara separates and lifts the lashes in one go. It generally gives the lashes a natural looking boost with out clumping which is perfect for every day makeup.

Forever Against Animal Testing

Happy Sunday – I hope you all had a lovely weekend. ☺

Some of you may have already seen the Forever Against Animal Testing campaign that Cruelty Free International and The Body Shop have created to put an end to cosmetics testing on animals on a global scale.

Ban Animal Testing

Animal testing remains a problem around the world, with over 80% of countries still having no laws against testing
in cosmetic products and ingredients. Despite the fact that reliable alternatives are available, millions of animals
continue to suffer. Cruelty Free International estimates that more than 500,000 animals are used worldwide in
cosmetics testing each year.

The Body Shop and Cruelty Free International’s new campaign Forever Against Animal Testing is calling
for a ban on animal testing in cosmetic products and ingredients, everywhere and forever, through
a United Nations International Convention. It is the most ambitious campaign ever against animal testing
in cosmetics, hoping to achieve 8 million signatures. We want to stop all cosmetic animal testing of ingredients
and products, everywhere and forever.

Quick review

Those of you that follow me on my social media accounts will have seen that I have posted and shared the petition to try and get more people involved and I’d like to thank the lovely people from the The Body Shop PR team for sending me a Special Edition Piñita Colada Body Butter with a custom Forever Against Animal Testing sticker on there. I’ve been using the Special Edition Piñita Colada Body Butter for the past few days and I am loving it! It smells like a fresh bottle of tropical juice (lol). The body butter is quite a lightweight cream that works well with the summer with the intense weather that we’ve been having here lately. It’s definitely worth getting before they all go! ☺

As someone who is passionate about the Cruelty-free movement, I feel that it’s important to not only support campaigns like this but to also support the brands that are actively making more and more cruelty-free and vegan products like The Body Shop. Together, we can inspire change in the simplest of ways, so please help us end cosmetic testing on animals by signing the Forever Against Animal Testing petition by Cruelty Free International & The Body Shop. ♥
